At the Worm Factory

In May of 2009, I had the pleasure of visiting a very big worm composting operation, near Perth, Ontario. Down a gravel road, in a very pretty part of the province, sits The Worm Factory, where thousands of worms are working hard to make great compost. The worms have it made in the shade, living under row after row of tables of greenhouse seedlings, basil for the pesto that Gerrie and Ray and the crew make and sell at the farmer's market in Ottawa.

"The story presents such a winning heroine, Winnie, part-scientist, part-entrepreneur, that you may consider raising worms as a hobby." --Chicago Tribune
